Leonid Lvovich Yakhnin (Russian: Леонид Львович Яхнин) was a Russian poet, writer, playwright and translator.
He graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute (1961), worked in his specialty, defended his Ph.D. thesis. Until 1971 he was a member of the Institute of Theory and History of Architecture. However, since 1964, he began to publish poetry for preschoolers and primary schoolchildren. Among his first books are collections of poems "My City" (1965), "Horseman" (1966), "Ship Pines" (1967), "Always Forward" (1968) ... Among his most famous fairy tales - "Square of Cardboard Clock", “Silver Wheels”, “Tanya and the Sun” ... Yakhnin introduced many world stars to Russian-speaking children: L. Alexander, E. T. A. Hoffman, D. Duane, H. Lofting, M. Maeterlink, E. Raspe, J. Tolkien, W. Shakespeare. His retellings were awarded the prestigious. Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj and an Honorary Diploma of the International Council for Children's Books. Among his retellings, a special place is occupied by the most interesting and original retelling of the world famous fairy tale by Lewis Carroll "Alice in Wonderland". Another significant work of his is the retelling of The Lay of Igor's Host, a great work of Old Russian literature.
