Lionel Bender is a British author, editor, publishing consultant, and educational content creator known for his extensive contribution to children's nonfiction. Trained in Biological Sciences at the University of Birmingham, he combined a scientific background with a passion for communication, going on to write more than 70 illustrated information books for young readers and to edit over 1,400 nonfiction and educational titles. He spent three decades as Editorial Director and partner at Bender Richardson White, overseeing the development and production of illustrated books and learning materials for publishers in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. Beyond writing and editing, he has advised authors, publishers, and educators through talks, workshops, and conference appearances, and was the initiator and co-chair of the 21st Century Children's Nonfiction Conference. A Scientific Fellow of the Zoological Society of London, he has also pursued a long-standing interest in miniature golf, representing Great Britain in European and World Championship competitions, co-authoring a beginner's guide to the sport, and helping design miniature golf courses through UrbanCrazy.
