原名張廼瑩，1911年端午節出生於黑龍江，幼年喪母。她在中學時期接觸五四運動以來的進步思想和中外文學，尤受魯迅、茅盾和美國作家辛克萊作品的影響。蕭紅的作品，經常表現出兩種主要關懷：鄉土與女性，其語言風格溫順平和，略帶哀婉氣質。
Xiao Hong or Hsiao Hung was a Chinese writer. Her given name was Zhang Naiying; she also used the pen name Qiao Yin. Xiao Hong was born in Hulan County, Heilongjiang Province, on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival to a landowning family.
