‘A master of sea-going adventure. Enough taut suspense to satisfy any reader.’ Clive Cussler

The Colorado, a battered WWII destroyer, is due to be decommissioned. Richard and Robin Mariner are set to attend a ceremony.

Visiting the Grand Canyon beforehand, the Mariners come across an inflatable vessel, the Pequod, struggling down the violent rapids of the River Colorado.

Richard and Robin are soon drawn into the Pequod’s journey - a sponsored raft ride ending along the Sea of Cortez, just in time for the Colorado's decommissioning.

Robin joins the Pequod’s crew, planning to meet Richard at the ceremony. However, as the vessel journeys further down the river, things are not as they first appeared.

Mafia-led corruption and severe weather carve new twists and turns in the trip. Dangerous new weather systems bring the full power of the river to life in ways the new waterway was never designed to handle. In ways where lives in a nearby village are endangered.

The Mariners join a rescue mission to save the villagers from the flood, racing to reach them before the Colorado hits high water.Peter Tonkin was born in 1950 in Ulster, Northern Ireland and was raised in the UK, Holland, Germany, and the Persian Gulf. The son of an RAF officer, Tonkin spent much of his youth travelling the world from one posting to another. He is the author of the Trojan Murders series, Caesar's Spies and the Tom Musgrave Mysteries.
