An old friend has called her in a state of distress. Her mother has failed to keep an appointment and disappeared.

As concern grows for the missing person, another woman’s body is discovered in a canal on the outskirts of Liverpool. The victim shows signs of having been restrained.

When the two investigations begin to overlap, Carr and his team begin to worry that the missing woman might share the same fate. Feeling the onus of responsibility, Carr goes out on a limb to help.

But post-lockdown, with nerves on edge and tempers frayed, the investigation is hanging on a thread, and misunderstandings and mishaps might let the chances of a successful outcome slip through the gaps.
