At the time the incidents in this book took place, the Bartletts were connected with the Indonesia Union Seminary in Bandung, Java. Prince, the hero of the book, was given to them by one of the mission workers as a small German shepherd pup.
One night not long after the Bartletts had acquired him he was viciously attacked by a mad dog. After this narrow escape he developed into an extraordinarily fine watchdog--sometimes almost too good--at least in the estimation of his victims.
Many of the episodes reflect a rare vein of humor, such as Prince's introduction to Kuching, the family cat, or the time he treed a thief.
The reader will find this dog story fascinating, enjoyable and entertaining.
