Connell puts the various approaches to masculinity developed by pyschoanalysts, social scientists and social change activists under the microscope. He argues that while the goal of a science of masculinity is mistaken, we have powerful new ways of thinking about men's bodies and men's places in a gendered world. There is no single masculinity, but rather multiple masculinities which can be understood through a social analysis of gender relations.
