Deadly is the first-ever biography of Kent and England cricketing legend Derek Underwood, written by renowned cricket author Mark Peel, winner of the Cricket Society Award and twice shortlisted at the British Sports Book Awards.

A key member of Ray Illingworth's Ashes-winning side to Australia in 1970/71, he won further acclaim for his demolition of Australia at Headingley in 1972 when England retained the Ashes.

In 1977 at the height of his powers he courted controversy by joining Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket. Although restored to the England side following the outbreak of peace, Underwood was never the same bowler and after an unsuccessful tour of India in 1981/82 he faced further criticism for joining the England rebel tour to South Africa. Always a Kent stalwart and an invaluable member of their great side of the 1970s, he continued to give them sterling service until his retirement in 1987.

This book brings you the inside track on Underwood's life and career through exclusive interviews with friends and team-mates, uncovering the secret of his phenomenal success and the endearing qualities that made him such a much-loved figure.
