Kitty Lee is fifteen when she falls in love with Harry, an "old man" of thirty-one, in this delightful romantic novel. Like most fifteen-year-olds, she is restless, enchanted with the idea of being seduced, envious of her older sister's privileges and beaux, dying to be eighteen and "grown up."

She first becomes intrigued with Harry when she glimpses him in Cornwall and then later, with his girl friend, in the gardens of Cheyne Walk in London. She decides to discover as much as she can about him and when, in the course of her investigations, they meet, Harry finds himself equally attracted by her. Her eagerness to live, her delight in exploring London with him, her charm and her freshness provide a welcome contrast to the sophisticated, rather petulant young woman with whom he is having an affair.

Soon Kitty and Harry are meeting every Saturday to go skating and Harry has begun to buy her silly, affectionate presents - an ugly pot of chrysanthemums, a white mouse, a red skating skirt. Kitty, convinced that she is really in love, refuses to believe it when her sister explains that no one else - especially Harry - can possibly take the "affair" seriously. Whether he does or not remains to be seen.

Kitty is a literary younger sister of Francoise Sagan's heroines. However, being English and living in staid London, some of her more startling fantasies must remain unfulfilled. But not for want of really heroic trying. The result, told in Kitty's own words, makes both a funny and touching story.
